GiGi's Playhouse - Madison Grand Opening

Monday, May 16, 2016

Thinking back on it, this past weekend was nearly identical to a year ago, as I was lucky enough to bake a couple hundred mini-desserts for a friend of mine.  As many of you might recall, last May was the month of Ben and Codie's wedding, where I baked over 300 desserts (four different types) for a dessert bar, as well as a three-tiered wedding cake.  This year, I again baked just over 300 mini-desserts (three different types); but rather than it being for a wedding it will serve as a donation for GiGi's Playhouse, which is a new facility in Madison where Codie will be the site coordinator.

For those not familiar, GiGi's Playhouse is a nationwide center that has "[provided] educational and therapeutic programs at no charge" to children and adults with Down syndrome since 2003.  Yup, you heard that right; through countless volunteers and donations, GiGi's Playhouse is able to provide 100% of its services free of charge!

To learn more about the organization, please check out Gigi's Playhouse's Facebook page, its local website, and its recent interviews with Channel 27 and Channel 3 of Madison, which speak about the grand opening.

If you're curious in learning about how you can get involved or just want to check out the new location, please join us for the grand opening this Sunday, May 22, from 2pm to 4pm at 4104 Monona Drive, Madison, WI.  There will be live music, games, a silent auction, and of course a few desserts to snack on.  In addition, you'll be able to chat with founder Nanci Gianni and her daughter GiGi, site coordinator Codie, as well as other staff and volunteers.

If you know of anyone who could benefit from the services GiGi's Playhouse provides, please share!
